2025 Adeboruwa Cup Kicks -Off Friday With 32 Teams Participating

The annual Adeboruwa Cup, a tournament named after the royal stool of Igbogbo Kingdom and part of the yearly Igbogbo Day Celebration will kick – off on Friday, September 5, 2025.

32 teams are participating in this year’s tournament and as usual, all the matches will be played at the United African Methodist (Eleja) Primary School, Igbogbo.

Organisers of the football competition that is sponsored by the Chairman, Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), disclosed this at the draw held at the Adeboruwa Pavilion, Adeboruwa Palace, Igbogbo on Tuesday.

Chairman, Igbogbo Day Sports Committee, Mr Obayomi Adeoye, addressing representatives of the teams during the draw, reiterated the objectives of the tournament and urged participating teams to maintain the spirit of sportsmanship throughout the games.

“The intention of the tournament has not changed, which is to promote unity, peace and cooperation among youths and communities in Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA. The tournament is also an avenue to develop and detect talents.

We are here to do the draw for this year’s tournament and also educate ourselves on the new rules that we are introducing.

We appeal for your cooperation and understanding throughout the tournament. We want every player and team to exhibit the true spirit of sportsmanship.”

While emphasising discipline, Mr Adeoye also said that the tournament has produced players for the national and international leagues.

The Chairman, who also informed the teams that the organisers are introducing new methods this year, added that teams playing this weekend must submit their licences by Friday while others must submit theirs by next Tuesday.

The head of the technical sub – committee, Mr Kabir Baoku, while coordinating the draw explained that teams were selected on the basis of performances and winning of previous editions, years of participation, strength and other factors.

While speaking on some of the rules, he urged teams to adhere strictly with the laid down principles of the tournament as released to the teams by the organisers to avoid disciplinary actions.
